Ann is looking for the recycling
plant key. She can´t find it. à She has lost her key.
It means that she lost it a
short time ago and she still hasn’t got it.
This is the present perfect
tense:
I/we/they/you have (=I´ve) lost
He/she has (=she´s)
I haven´t lost…. Have you
lost….?
She hasn’t lost… Has she
lost….?

a) Read this example
We form
the present perfect with have/has + past participle. The past participle often
ends in
-ed
(opened, decided) but many importants verbs are irregular (lost, written, done,
etc). See appendix
WE USE PRESENT PERFECT:
b) When there is a connection with the
present:
-
I´ve lost my recycling plant key. (= I
haven´t got it now.)
-
Jim has gone to the forest. (=He is in the
forest or on his way there now).
-
Have you watered
the plants? (= Are they watered now?)
c) To give new information or to
announce a recent happening:
-
I´ve lost my recycling plant key. Can you
help me look for it?
-
Do you know about Jim? He´s gone to the
forest.
-
Ow! I´ve burnt myself.
Use present perfect with just (= a short time ago):
-
Would you like something to eat? No, Thanks. I´ve just arrived
from the party.
-
Hello, have you just arrived?
Use present perfect with already to say something has happened
sooner than expected
-
Don´t forget to feed the cat. I´ve
already fed it!
-
When is Tom going to start his job at the recycling
plant? He has already
started.
d) Check the difference between gone to
and been to:
-
Ann is on holiday. She has gone to Italy.
(=She is there now or she is on her way there.)
-
Tom is back in England now. He has been to
Italy. (= He was there but now he has come back.)
